“Mike McMellon was recommended to us as the immigration lawyer in the region to go to when we needed assistance back in 2021. We had submitted our Long-Term Skills Shortage Residency application the year prior, caught up in the post-COVID backlog with INZ, when a situation occurred to put our future here at risk. INZ had the discretion to issue my partner with a deportation notice to leave NZ as a result of this. My partner’s deportation would have meant that I would be following suit and would need to leave the country to remain with him.

Mike helped us navigate this extremely stressful time, where we were working with a barrister and legal system on the one side, whilst navigating our visa situation and what the future might hold for us, and the family we had hoped to start here, on the other. Mike liaised with INZ Compliance and the Case Officer and managed the application for a character waiver under the residency application, together with an interim work visa for my partner whilst this was in process.
